About

Hi, I’m Nadine Slavitt an EMDR Certified Therapist

I am passionate about helping people grow through the challenges of their lives.

I work with couples who are struggling with conflict, parents who are going through a difficult divorce, and individuals struggling with depression and anxiety.

I know how bad it feels to be stuck and I want you to start feeling better.  I truly believe that your life and your relationships can improve, and I’m ready to roll up my sleeves as we get to work.

On the practical level, I help my clients as they develop strategies and skills for managing their most immediate challenges.  You may be under a great deal of stress, feeling overwhelmed by conflict or alienation from a loved one or due to a divorce. You may be struggling with anxiety, depression, and anger.  As my clients learn new skills and strategies, they feel more empowered and more in control of their lives.

In addition to using their skills, many of my clients want to dig deeper and understand the causes of their struggles.  Past hurts and traumas can make you more emotionally sensitive and easily triggered.  Addressing these experiences may be an important part of your healing process and can help you start to feel lighter, happier, and healthier.

I use EMDR with my clients who are struggling with past traumas or difficult experiences to help them more quickly find relief.  I find that working on these two levels — skill building and processing the past — places my clients on a path toward greater health and happier relationships

A little bit about my background

I haven’t always been a therapist

In what feels like a lifetime ago (a story for another time), I began my career as a lawyer.  I quickly realized that I was in the wrong field  – I wanted to work with people on a personal level and help them grow.  I became a mediator in Dependency Court of Philadelphia working with families around issues of child abuse and neglect.

At the same time, I began coach training and became a Professional Certified Coach.  Since 2008, I have been a leadership coach with the Wharton Business School at the University of Pennsylvania, working with MBA and Executive MBA students as they develop leadership skills for their professional and personal lives.

In my practice, I also provide coaching services to clients going through personal and professional transitions.

As a life-long learner, and the mother of three children, I wanted to go deeper to better understand individual mental health and family dynamics.  I obtained my social work degree from the Bryn Mawr Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research and included psychotherapy into my work. In addition to my private practice, I am affiliated with Family Serices of Chester County (FSCC).  At FSCC, I teach a DBT skills group, and I have created and facilitate the FSCC Co-Parenting Skills Class, a class required of all co-parenting counseling clients of the agency.

My Approach

I am trained in Mindfulness, certified in EMDR, and I use the Gottman Method Couples Therapy.  The modalities that guide my practice are Mindfulness, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Internal Family Systems (IFS).

I love working with individuals and couples who find themselves at a crossroad in their lives, facing challenges, struggling but wanting a better life.  I know how hard these crossroads can be for each one of us internally, in our relationships, and for our children.  Having traveled my own path, I am grateful to help guide others down their paths of growth and change toward a life of greater happiness, meaning, and fulfillment.
